Kalinga Utkal Express train accident LIVE: In an unfortunate event, Puri Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli, a town near Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh. As many as 14 coaches went off track and over 50 people have been reported injured in the incident. The train was going to Haridwar with its arrival time scheduled at 9 PM. The incident took place at around 5:50 PM. The government has confirmed 23 deaths, however, the number can go up. The reason behind the accident is still not clear. Rescue operations are still on. Locals have reached the spot are helping with the relief operations. An ATS team is also probing a terror angle in the accident.

10.05 pm: Union Health Minister J P Nadda spoke to Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu and offered all medical support required for the victims of the train derailment in Muzaffarnagar in western Uttar Pradesh today.

8:40 PM: Meanwhile, Anil Saxena has confirmed that 14 coaches of the train were derailed.
8:35 PM: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has announced ex gratia of 3.5 Lakh for those who lost their lives, Rs.50 thousand for seriously injured

8:32 PM: Zee News reports that 14 coaches of the train were derailed. If this number is to go by then the casualties can increase significantly.

8:30 PM: ANI reports citing sources that repair work was underway on the track which could be the reason behind the derailment.
8:27 PM: Anand Kumar has ANI that at least 30-40 people have been seriously injured in the accident. He also revealed that 30 ambulances have reached the spot.
8:22 PM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reacted to the incident. “I wish those injured a speedy recovery. The situation is being monitored very closely by the Railways Ministry,” PMO said in a tweet.
